Nordic Welfare States and Public Health – A Need for Transformative Change?

The conference seeks solutions to securing the welfare state and public health and reducing inequalities, provides a forum to exchange information about current social and healthcare reforms and research, as well as strengthens Nordic co-operation in questions related to welfare and to public health.

Confirmed speakers and commentators include professor Olle Lundberg, chair of the Commission for Equity in Health in Sweden, professor Sixten Korkman, Aalto University School of Business, professor Gunnel Gustafsson, director of NordForsk, and docent Mirjam Kalland, rector of the Swedish School of Social Sciences of the University of Helsinki.

Workshops within the conference focus on social and health care services reforms, freedom of choice, the effects of growing immigration on the social and health care systems in the Nordic countries, cross-sectoral cooperation, longer and healthy working life, labour inclusion and obstacles for youth, evidence-based parental support, ending childhood obesity, antimicrobial resistance and Nordic prehospital EMS data.

Place: Scandic Hotel Grand Marina, Helsinki

The event forms a part of the activities of Finland’s Presidency in the Nordic Council of Ministers in 20 16.The conference is also linked to the Nordic cross-sectoral priority project ”Open and Innovative Nordic Countries with Well-being People in 2020.”
